Grandpa Bill |
I cannot believe how quickly time is flying by...Ben will already be 7 weeks tomorrow! We are continuing to have visitors and I love that Ben is getting to know all the people who love him so dearly!! He is getting bigger and taller and his head keeps on growing...ha! At his last appointment, he was almost 9 lb 10 oz (45 percentile), 21 1/4 in (38%) and a head circumfrence of 38 1/4 (62%...thanks Dad!). I take pictures every single day and am amazed at the changes he makes on a daily basis!

My old roommate, Seaner, got to meet Ben! |
So as most of you know, Benjamin went through surgery 2 weeks ago. He had a urachal cyst that needed to be removed. It's an extremely rare condition that many of the hospital staff had not heard of before. Basically, the typical fetus has a channel from their belly button to their bladder and during the course of development inside the womb, that channel shrinks up to a ligament. Ben's didn't finish, so it created a sac that allowed mucus and pus to build and become infected. Because the channel didn't completely close, there was a hole in his belly button where the fluid from the cyst leaked through. Through the surgery, they were able to remove the cyst without touching the bladder (great news!) and do it all through the belly button, so he won't have much of a noticeable scar. They put a rubber band in the incision in case of infection, the fluid could leak out. Ben did great in surgery and was really strong through recovery...I was a mess...he is so much stronger than his mommy! We were in the hospital for 2 nights and it was fairly comfortable, but we were glad to get home! On Tuesday, we saw the surgeon for a follow-up and got his band removed. He is looking good and should be done with this mess. The best part about the whole thing is that he won't remember any of it!!!

We had to do fluids the night before surgery
becase Ben couldn't eat. |

Our room was a suite and this is looking

When we got home from the hospital, our one
day bloom was flowered...nice welcome home! |
 |
We sleep......finally!! |
After surgery, we wanted to take Ben out for ice cream for being such a trooper. Since he's only 5 weeks and can't yet have ice cream, we opted for a suite at the Sun's game instead. He did really well and seemed to love all the lights at the game. I think he did get over-stimulated though because he stayed up for almost 5 hours and had a really hard time settling down for bed once we were home. Not a bad way to do your first NBA game!

Ben's first Suns game!! |
 |
He slept through tip off, but saw most of the game! |
 |
Our family. (I LOVE saying that!!) |
Another cool couple of photos...Uncle Eric flew over our house!!! He texted when he was there so we could come out to see him. It was really cool to see them circle our housebefore heading on their way. Because it was 6:30 am, he didn't get to come low or turn on the sirens. Still felt pretty special...
More pictures from the past couple of weeks...scroll quickly if I went overboard! ;-)
